Algo trading puts a different load on a PC than manual trading: backtests and parameter sweeps want CPU cores, big tick or minute data wants RAM and a fast SSD, and live strategies want stability above everything. There is no single official requirement – it depends on your code and data – so everything below is our recommendation.

What matters for algo trading
TECHCURE RECOMMENDATION
- CPU cores – parallel backtests and optimisations (Python multiprocessing, AmiBroker optimisation, MT5 strategy tester) scale with cores.
- RAM – loading years of minute or tick data into pandas DataFrames is memory-hungry; 32 GB is a sensible floor for serious research.
- NVMe SSD – fast reads of large data files; keep data on a separate SSD from Windows.
- GPU – only needed if you train machine-learning models (CUDA on NVIDIA). Otherwise the GPU is just for your monitors.
- Uptime – a UPS, good cooling and a quality PSU. Many traders run live bots on a cloud VPS and research on the desk PC.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best PC for Python algo trading?
One with enough CPU cores for parallel backtests, 32–64 GB RAM for your data and a fast NVMe SSD. The exact tier depends on your data size and how you run tests.
Do I need a GPU for algo trading?
Only if you train machine-learning models with GPU acceleration. For normal backtesting the CPU and RAM matter more.
Should I run my bot on my PC or a VPS?
Many traders research on their desk PC and run live strategies on a VPS for uptime. If your bot runs on your PC, use a UPS and stable internet.
How much RAM do I need for backtesting?
Our recommendation: 32 GB for minute data across a few years, 64 GB or more for tick data or many symbols in memory.
Can the same PC run MT5, AmiBroker and Python?
Yes. Plan for the heaviest one – usually optimisation – and add RAM if you run several platforms together.
Is algo trading allowed for retail traders in India?
Rules for retail algo trading are set by SEBI and your broker. Check your broker's current policy – we only supply the hardware.
