A 1TB NVMe SSD costs from ₹14,259 in India today (27 September 2026), and good Gen4 drives from known brands sit between ₹15,789 and ₹16,659. That is more than double what the same capacity cost two years ago, because the flash memory inside SSDs is being bought up by AI data centres.

Why are SSD prices so high in 2026?
SSDs use NAND flash, and memory makers have moved much of their production to high-margin AI and server products. Industry analysts expect memory prices to stay high into 2027, so there is no sign of a quick return to old prices. A weaker rupee adds to the cost of imported drives.
Gen3 or Gen4?
- Gen4 drives are faster for game loading, large file copies and video editing, and the price gap to Gen3 is now small.
- Gen3 is fine for office and trading PCs, or older motherboards that only have Gen3 M.2 slots.
- Any Gen4 drive works in a Gen3 slot — it simply runs at Gen3 speed.
Our recommendation
For a new gaming or editing PC, pick a Gen4 1TB drive from a brand with an Indian service network. For a trading PC, a Gen3 drive is enough. See every drive in our SSD collection, or read best SSD under ₹5,000 if 256GB is enough for you.

Frequently asked questions
What is the price of a 1TB NVMe SSD in India today?
In our in-stock catalogue on 27 September 2026, 1TB NVMe SSDs start at ₹14,259.
Will SSD prices fall in 2026?
Forecasts do not expect a big fall before 2027, because memory makers are prioritising AI and server products.
Is Gen4 worth it over Gen3?
For a new PC, yes — the price gap is small and Gen4 is noticeably faster for large files and game loading.
Is 1TB enough for gaming?
For a few big games plus Windows, yes. Many new games are over 100GB, so heavy gamers should plan for 2TB or add a second drive later.
Does a heatsink matter?
It helps Gen4 drives keep full speed during long copies. Many motherboards include an M.2 heatsink already.
