Market Holiday? 10-Point Trading PC Maintenance Checklist

Thermal paste, UPS and SSD for trading PC maintenance

A market holiday is the safest day to service your trading PC — clean it, update it, back it up and test the UPS, so nothing breaks during market hours. Stock exchanges are closed on Gandhi Jayanti (2 October), which makes it a good day for this checklist; check your exchange's holiday list for other dates.

The 10-point checklist

  1. Blow out the dust from front filters, CPU cooler and graphics card fans — with the PC switched off and unplugged.
  2. Install Windows updates and restart, so no update forces a restart on a trading day.
  3. Update graphics drivers, then check all monitors wake up correctly after sleep.
  4. Update broker and charting software — terminals, TradingView desktop, MT5.
  5. Back up layouts, templates, EAs, watchlists and trade journals to a second drive or cloud.
  6. Check SSD health with a free tool such as CrystalDiskInfo; replace drives showing warnings.
  7. Check temperatures under load; high CPU temperatures often mean dust or old thermal paste.
  8. Test the UPS: unplug it from the wall briefly and confirm the PC and monitors stay on.
  9. Check cables: loose display and network cables cause flicker and disconnects.
  10. Trim startup apps in Task Manager so the PC boots fast and stays responsive.

Our recommendation

Do this checklist once a quarter. If your PC is slow even after servicing, it may need more RAM or a newer platform — see how much RAM traders need and our trading PCs. Near Surat? Bring it to our Utran store for a check-up — details on the contact page.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I clean my trading PC?

Every three months in most Indian homes and offices; more often in dusty areas.

Is it safe to update Windows on a trading PC?

Yes, but do it on a holiday or weekend and restart afterwards, so updates never interrupt market hours.

How do I check if my SSD is failing?

Use a free SMART tool such as CrystalDiskInfo. A 'Caution' or 'Bad' status means back up and replace the drive.

When should I replace thermal paste?

If CPU temperatures stay high after cleaning, or every two to three years.

How do I test my UPS?

With the PC running, unplug the UPS from the wall for a few seconds and check everything stays on.
