Cluster servers for teams, studios and offices

Cluster Servers in India — one powerful server, many users

A cluster server pools many CPU cores, ECC memory, fast NVMe storage and 10GbE networking so several people — or many virtual machines — can work on it at the same time. TechCure India builds and ships ready cluster servers across India, planned around your workload.

What is a cluster server?

A cluster server is a server — or a group of servers called nodes — that shares its processor cores, memory, storage and graphics between many users and workloads at once, instead of giving each person a separate PC.

Typical uses are remote desktops for a team, many virtual machines on one machine, shared render, build and test jobs, private AI workloads, and a central file or database server. People connect from ordinary laptops or thin clients over the network, so the heavy hardware sits in one place, is easy to cool, back up and look after, and is shared efficiently. You can start with one strong node and add more nodes later to grow into a true multi-server cluster.

What a cluster server must have

These are the parts that decide whether a shared server stays fast and stable when many people use it together.

Many-core processor

AMD Threadripper / Threadripper PRO, EPYC or Intel Xeon. More cores and threads mean more users and virtual machines can run without slowing each other.

ECC Registered memory

Error-correcting RDIMM memory for long uptime, in enough modules to use every memory channel. Memory is usually the first limit when you add users.

Workstation or server motherboard

Many memory slots, many PCIe lanes for graphics cards, NVMe drives and network cards, and (on true server boards) remote management.

Fast, safe storage

NVMe SSDs for virtual machines and user data, ideally mirrored (RAID) or backed up to a second drive or NAS.

Strong power and cooling

A high-wattage, high-efficiency power supply with headroom, and a cabinet and cooler that keep the processor at full speed all day.

10GbE networking, UPS and software

Fast network ports so users are not waiting on the wire, a UPS for power cuts, and a hypervisor or remote-desktop software with the right licences.

How several users work on one cluster server

  • Remote desktops: each person logs in to their own session with Windows Remote Desktop Services (RDS) or a similar tool.
  • Virtual machines: split the server into separate machines with Proxmox, Hyper-V, VMware or Linux KVM — one per user, project or application.
  • Containers and build farms: run Docker or Kubernetes workloads, builds, tests and shared render jobs.
  • Graphics: a physical graphics card can be given to one virtual machine, or shared between users only with the right virtualisation software and licences (for example NVIDIA vGPU / MIG on supported cards).
  • Access: staff connect from laptops, thin clients or home over the network or a VPN.

Sizing: where to start

Type of userStarting point per userNeeds a graphics card?
Office, browser, accounts2 CPU threads, 8 GB RAMNo
Developer, virtual machines, trading terminals4 CPU threads, 16 GB RAMUsually not
Design, CAD, video editing, AI8 or more CPU threads, 32 GB RAM or moreYes, a dedicated GPU per heavy user

These are general starting points, not guarantees. The real number of users depends on your software. Tell us what you run and we size the server with you.

Cluster server questions

What is a cluster server?

A cluster server is a server, or a group of servers called nodes, that shares its processor cores, memory, storage and graphics between many users and workloads at once, so people work on shared hardware instead of one PC each.

How many users can one cluster server support?

It depends on what each person runs. As a starting point, office users need about 2 CPU threads and 8 GB of RAM each, developers and trading terminals about 4 threads and 16 GB, and design, CAD, video or AI users 8 or more threads, 32 GB or more and often their own graphics card. We size it with you on WhatsApp.

Do I need ECC memory?

For a shared server that runs all day, yes. ECC Registered memory corrects memory errors and supports the large capacities Threadripper and EPYC platforms are built for.

Threadripper, EPYC or Xeon — which is better?

Threadripper and Threadripper PRO give high clock speeds and many cores in a tower workstation; EPYC and Xeon are the choice for rack servers with remote management and very high core counts. We can quote any of them on request.

Can several users share one graphics card?

Only with virtualisation software and licences that support sharing, such as NVIDIA vGPU or MIG on supported cards. Otherwise one graphics card is given to one virtual machine.

Should I choose a tower or a rack server?

A tower suits an office or studio and is quieter. A rack server suits a server room or data centre. Tell us where it will sit and we plan around it.

Which software do I run on it?

Windows Server Remote Desktop Services, Proxmox, Hyper-V, VMware or Linux KVM, plus your own applications. Operating system and hypervisor licences are separate; we guide you on the setup.

Do you deliver across India and support it after sale?

Yes. We deliver across India with insured shipping, offer on-site installation, lifetime remote support and 10-year service support.
