What do I need to start a podcast?

USB or XLR microphone — which should I choose?
A USB microphone is the simplest: plug it in and record. An XLR dynamic microphone with an audio interface gives a more professional sound and handles room noise better, and it is easier to upgrade later.
Do I need an audio interface?
If you use an XLR microphone, yes: the interface supplies the preamp and connects the microphone to the PC. USB microphones do not need one.
Do I need a powerful PC for podcasting?
Audio podcasts are light work for a modern PC. Video editing and live streaming need more CPU, RAM and ideally a graphics card. We recommend a PC for your exact format.
What do I need for a video podcast?
