Most four-screen trading desks need a 1000–1100VA UPS: add the watts of the PC and monitors, divide by 0.6 to get VA, and add about 25% headroom. A UPS keeps you trading through short power cuts and gives time to close positions and shut down safely in a long one.

Step 1: Add up your watts
| Device | Typical power |
|---|---|
| Trading PC (no big graphics card) | 100–200W |
| Trading PC with graphics card | 200–350W |
| 24-inch monitor | 15–25W each |
| Router / modem | 10–20W |

Example: a 250W trading PC + four 20W monitors + a 15W router ≈ 345W.
Step 2: Convert to VA
Many home UPS units are rated at about 0.6 watts per VA. So 345W ÷ 0.6 ≈ 575VA. Add 25% headroom → about 720VA. A 1000–1100VA UPS gives comfortable margin and more backup time.
Step 3: Choose the type
- Line-interactive / standby: good for most homes and offices with stable power and short cuts.
- Online UPS: power always runs through the UPS — best where voltage is poor or cuts are frequent.

Backup time is short — plan for it
Home UPS units with built-in batteries usually give minutes, not hours, at full load. Use the time to square off or protect open positions, save work and shut down. For longer cover, run the router on a separate small UPS and keep your broker's phone dealing number handy.
Our recommendation
For a 4-screen desk, a 1000–1100VA UPS is the practical choice. See UPS and power, our trading PCs, and how to connect 4 monitors.

Frequently asked questions
What size UPS do I need for a trading PC?
Add up the watts of the PC, monitors and router, divide by 0.6 and add about 25%. Most four-screen desks land at 1000–1100VA.
How long will a UPS run my trading PC?
Usually a few minutes at full load with built-in batteries — enough to close positions and shut down safely.
Online or line-interactive UPS for trading?
Line-interactive is fine with stable power. Choose online where voltage fluctuates or cuts are frequent.
Should monitors be on the UPS?
Yes, at least the monitors you trade on, plus the router — otherwise you lose the screen or connection during a cut.
Is a 600VA UPS enough?
For a single-screen PC without a graphics card, often yes. For multi-screen setups, choose 1000VA or more.
