Most modern desktop graphics cards have three or four video outputs, but the number of ports is not the whole answer. The real limit is the number of displays the card supports at the same time, and whether the cables and the card have enough bandwidth for your resolution and refresh rate. Manufacturers list the maximum displays on each card's specification page. For five or more screens you usually need more than one card.
Outputs are not the same as supported displays
A card can have a certain number of physical ports and still support fewer or more screens at once, depending on its design. Always read the "multi-monitor" or "maximum displays" line on the manufacturer's page for the exact model, not just the port list.
Bandwidth: resolution, refresh rate and cables
Every screen needs bandwidth, and it grows with resolution and refresh rate. A 4K screen at a high refresh rate needs much more than a 1080p screen at 60 Hz. DisplayPort 1.4 carries up to 32.4 Gbps on the link and HDMI 2.1 up to 48 Gbps, and features such as DSC compression help at the top end. Adapters, docks and daisy-chaining (MST) can reduce what each screen gets, because the screens share one port's bandwidth. For a stable multi-screen desk, direct cables from the card to each monitor are the safest choice.
What is typical for different setups
| Number of screens | Typical approach | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| 2–3 screens | One graphics card with enough outputs | Port types match the monitors |
| 4 screens | One card that supports four displays, or two cards | Maximum displays for that exact card, and resolution |
| 5–8 screens | More than one card, or a card made for many displays | Driver support, slot space and power for each card |
| 9 or more screens | Several cards or specialist cards | Software support and a tested layout |
This table is general guidance from TechCure India, not an official specification. The exact limit depends on the card and the monitors.
Plan the layout before you buy
Decide the number of screens, their size, whether they are landscape or portrait, and the resolution you want. Then choose the card and the cables to match. Our monitors and monitor arms are listed in the store, and our PC Builder shows how many displays a card supports where that data is verified.

Frequently asked questions
Can one graphics card run four monitors?
Many current desktop cards have four video outputs, and manufacturers list the maximum number of displays on the card's specification page. Whether all four run at your chosen resolution and refresh rate depends on bandwidth, cables and the monitors. Check the card's own specification page.
Do I need DisplayPort or is HDMI enough?
Both work. DisplayPort is common on trading and office monitors, and newer HDMI versions carry a lot of bandwidth. Match the cable standard to the monitor's resolution and refresh rate, and avoid cheap adapters when you run many screens.
Can I use the motherboard's video output for an extra monitor?
On a processor with integrated graphics, the motherboard outputs can often drive an extra screen alongside the graphics card. Support depends on the processor, the motherboard and the settings, and performance on that screen is lower. Check before you rely on it.
How do I run five or more monitors?
Usually with more than one graphics card, or a card made for many displays. The exact plan depends on the cards, the resolution and the software, so send us your layout and we will verify it before building.
Does TechCure India build multi-monitor PCs?
Yes. Multi-screen trading PCs are a core part of our work, from 2 screens up to much larger walls. See our trading PC page for Surat or message us your layout.
